Five years had passed since I had been inside a gym, let along lifted a weight. In April 2011, my wife directed us towards our local fitness center, Snap Fitness, to inquire about a membership. A half-hour later, we left with a signed membership, my first in years.
I was excited to meet with Tim Shaver the following week to assess my level of fitness and get some much needed motivation and support. As you can see from the photos, I was lacking in many areas. The week prior, I visited my doctor, had my vitals checked - and I was actually considered healthy!
The day finally came to get both my weight and body-fat percentage verified. Needless to say, I was a "little" taken aback when Tim stated that I was at 31% bodyfat! Honestly, I really didn't consider my self "fat", just "big-boned" and "pregnant" :-).
For the next several weeks, I was in/out of the gym, using the tools that Tim provided, and trying to get a routine down. During this time, I really concentrated on changing my poor eating habits and focus on nutrition.
After several trips out of town, (you know what that can do to a physique), Tim and I finally agreed on a strength and cardio routine that would fit my schedule of three (3) workouts per week.
My official start date was May 16, 2011.
Over the next few months, I changed the way and frequency I ate. My whole mentality towards food changed. I started to feel more alert and
emotionally stable. My energy level increased and.... I got off the couch! Everyday was a new challenge for me and I was excited to wake up, start the morning, and face whatever obstacle came my way. From May until today (July 21, 2011), I am walking three (3) times per day and enjoying it!. I wake up around 4:30am each morning and take my two (2) dogs for a short walk down the street to wake up and start the day. For breakfast, I eat a cup of oatmeal with some honey and some protein powder. Drink a cup of coffee, shower, and take my wife to work.
I have lost four (4) pant sizes and I continue to be recognized by my family and co-workers at the transformation they see.
This is an adventure, a habit, a lifestyle - that I chose...thank you to my wife for getting me started. :-)
Thanks Tim, for your motivation, support, and friendship. Literally, you helped to change my life and habits. Realistically, I could never have done this without you. I know that I did the work, but without your understanding and momentum - I would still be on the couch watching re-runs of Criminal Minds and enjoying that Big Mac!
